Kays Ahmad has been in translator with Foundation for Access to Right (FAR) since 2021. He has been translating articles from English to Pashto for Migrantlife.bg platform.
Kays was born in the North part of Afghanistan. He has been in Bulgaria since 2016 with Refugee status.
He graduates from high school in 2009, and studies English literature for 3,5 years in Balkh University in Balkh province in Afghanistan but due to the security situation he couldn’t complete higher education.
He has worked as an Interpreter/Translator and cultural mediator with NATO forces for 7 years in Afghanistan and is currently working for an international company – TELUS International Europe.
He has been working with different Humanitarian NGOs since he came to Bulgaria such as MDM (Médecins du Monde) as social translator for several months. Since 2017 he works as a social mediator and translator with the Centre for Legal Aid Voice in Bulgaria.
Kays has also worked as a volunteer with a project of CARITAS NGO as English language assistant in Refugee reception. From 2019 to 2021, he had worked with UNHCR as an interpreter - AGD PA in UNHCR.
Kays is currently an active member of the Refugee Advisory Board (RAB) and working as projects manager.
Kays has taken parts in multiple events that was launched by various NGOs such as human library, intercultural events, refugee days and so on, and his passion is to support and cooperate with those that they are in need of help. Having passed this long journey himself, for him it be would an honor to serve as bridge and as an example to new arrivals in the country of host / Bulgaria based on integration, help them get familiar with education system, let them know about the tradition and culture of Bulgaria and their rights in Bulgaria.
His advice to newly-arrived refugees and asylum seekers in Bulgaria is to be patient, to look for opportunities for development and work.
