From 13 to 15 November atty. Valeria Ilareva and Katerina Ivanova took part in an exchange visit as part of the Safeguarding Unaccompanied and Separated Children's Rights through the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights (SUN) project.
Our partners Terre des hommes - Romania had prepared a rich program full of field visits and presentations of organizations, supporting unaccompanied and separated refugee and migrant children through:
- hollistic support and referring upon arrival in the country
- provision of shelter and meeting the basic needs
- legal aid
- psycho-emotional support
- creative activities and encouraging the individual talents.
On 15 November the representatives of the SUN project partners took part in the PROMISE project final conference. The PROMISE project was implemented by Terre des hommes - Romania and JRS Romania. The project addresses the problem of insufficient inter-institutional communication in cases of unaccompanied foreign minors. The main outcome of this project are the Standards for applying the principle of the best interest of unaccompanied foreign minors.
It was inspiring to learn how Terre des hommes - Romania take into account the opinions and points of view of refugee and migrant children in all of their activities.
We are grateful to Terre des hommes - Romania and all participants in this exciting exchange of good practices.
The next exchange visit within the SUN project will take place in January 2024 in the Netherlands.
