Valery Petkov has volunteered for FAR since 2015 as а legal representative of asylum seekers before the national courts. In 2021 he was part of the legal team that provided legal aid to financially disadvantaged refugees and immigrants during pandemic by using and improving the Migrantlife.Bg platform under a project executed by FAR and financed by the Active citizens fund. Currently he is a research for the COMP4SEE project that aims to contribute to the development of complementary pathways in Bulgaria and other EU member states.

 

Valery Petkov holds an LLM from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” where he specialized in public administration. He was awarded a Diploma in “An Introduction to English and European Union Law” by Cambridge University’s Board of Continuing Education after two years of studies and completed an EU State Aid Rules course offered by the European Institute of Public Administration (Maastricht, NL). In 2021 Valery was admitted as a PhD student at the Institute for the State and the Law - Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

 

Valery was called to the Sofia Bar Association in 2012.

 

In 2008 Valery was part of the team who won the Central and Eastern European Moot Court in EU law. Since 2009, Valery has been a member of the International Moot Courts Competition Association (Sofia, Bulgaria) serving as a member of the Managing board from 2009 till 2018. From 2012 till 2015 he was coaching the team of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” for the TELDERS International Law Moot Court Competition.

 

Valery has published more than 10 articles on administrative law and procedure in legal journals.
